Claude Code for writers

This article made me grin because it’s not about AI “writing for you.” It’s about AI helping writers build tools—the kind of behind-the-scenes stuff that makes your creative life smoother. Casey Newton talks about using Claude Code to do things like spin up a simple author website, and even create a searchable database of your own past work so you can ask questions like “When did I last write about ___?” and actually get grounded answers from your archive.

What I love most is the framing: tools that improve your thinking instead of substituting for it. That’s the sweet spot—keep the voice human, let the tech handle the scaffolding.

Question for writers: if you could build ONE tool to support your writing life (not write the book for you), what would it be?
